Game Review: Pants Quest
I found my pants and I’m glad I did :)
Quite simply, Pants Quest was adorably and hilariously dragged out. Though it was a shorter point-and-click adventure game, it seemed like a type of game that, once I completed a task, three more would present itself and I was stuck thinking “geez, when am I done?” Because of its premise, length of playthrough, and art style, I really only had critique towards the speed of the game and the major bug I encountered at the end. A note for anyone who decides to play this game: don’t leave the front door open. It blocked me from seeing the ending, and I had to watch a YouTube playthrough to finish the game. My favorite part of this game was the art style. If you were to check out my Steam Wallpaper Engine, you would see that 95% of my saved wallpapers are 8-bit styled wallpapers. It’s an art style that I’m obsessed with, so I love seeing games being made with that style. Overall, the story was fine yet campy while providing the chuckles it deserved. The premise was cute and comfortable, which I’m assuming was the intention with this short game.
According to the Keymailer description: “Pants Quest is about one man's struggle to deal with the hurdles life throws at you while you’re just trying to find your pants. It’s nostalgic yet fresh, introspectively written, and crafted with a careful attention to detail. Also you’re in your underwear for, like, the whole game. An experience about man at his most vulnerable: waking up and putting pants on. Explore his life, his house and his laundry through a rich and cozy interactive environment. What are the sinister forces that brought this man’s life to a standstill? Is he really in his underwear the whole game? Doesn’t he have pajamas or something? And seriously, where are those pants? This is a very short game! Solve retro style point-and-click puzzles on your quest to get out of the house. Intricate, detailed pixel art brings a rainy workday morning to life. Offbeat humour and a touching emotional journey. Will he find his pants? There’s only one way to find out! And always remember- you are more than the sum of your pants”.
Pants Quest was developed by Ghost Cat Game, an indie game studio based in Melbourne, Australia.
